Heading to a wedding reception in Liverpool this summer? If the answer is ‘yes’, you’ll surely be looking for the perfect wedding dress – demure and stylish without being too flashy or distracting from the bride.

At Function Suite Liverpool, we’ve hosted our fair share of weddings, and we’ve seen some beautiful dresses over the years. Having already played host to a number of weddings this summer, we’ve pinpointed the top trends for wedding dresses in 2016 – check out our top five.

  1. Floral

Floral outfits are just perfect for a summer wedding. Whether it’s a stylish floral playsuit or a dainty tea dress, there’s nothing more elegant than delicate florals. If you don’t feel daring enough to don head-to-toe florals, you can easily give a subtle nod to this trend with a floral bag or a fascinator bedecked in beautiful flowers.

  1. Off-the-shoulder gowns

The off-the-shoulder ‘Bardot’ look has been massive all year, and it’s very appropriate for a wedding. It flashes a little flesh without being revealing or skimpy, and it looks effortlessly elegant with a small pendant necklace and an up-do. The off-the-shoulder style doesn’t need to stop at gowns – a stylish Bardot jumpsuit or gypsy top with culottes would also make a great outfit for a wedding dress.

  1. Bell sleeves

In case you hadn’t noticed, the 1970s are back in a big way! From high-waisted flares to off-the-shoulder gypsy-style tops, many of the fashion trends from the 70s have made a huge comeback in 2016. Bell sleeves give a nod to this trend – and they’re great if you want to cover up. If you’re attending an outdoor wedding and are worried about getting cold, a top or dress with elegant bell sleeves will cover you up appropriately and ensure you’re still at the height of fashion.

  1. Thigh slit

The subtle thigh slit is also a popular trend right now, and it’s ideal if you’re heading for a wedding on a boiling hot day! Rather than squeezing into an uncomfortably tight pencil dress, opt for a flowy skirt or dress with a thigh slit for practicality and style all in one go.

  1. Asymmetrical hemlines

Symmetrical hemlines are playing it safe. If you really want to showcase a daring style at a summer wedding, asymmetrical hemlines are the choice for summer 2016. These dresses and skirts give the illusion of being fairly demure, while also allowing you to showcase toned pins! This trend is another one which is great for warm days where comfort and style are equally important.
